Travel Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival in Panama City, you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel in Panama City.

Day 2

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up for a day of hiking on the Las Cruces Trail.

This legendary trail was the route used by Henry Morgan to sack Panama City in 1671. Completed around 1550, this is one of the first roads built by the Spanish Conquistadors. The Camino de Cruces lies within Soberania National Park. This tropical rainforest offers excellent opportunities for nature enthusiasts. The area is well known for Howler monkeys, Coati, Collared anteaters, Iguana, and Agouties. Birding is also exceptional - attentive explorers are likely to see species such as Motmot, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Yellow-billed Cacique, Crested Oropendola and Trogon. This trail take approximately 5 to 6 hours to complete. Lunch is included.

Day 3

After breakfast at your hotel, depart for your Jungle Challenge.

This is an adrenaline-driven adventure deep within the awesome beauty and calm of Mother Nature. The Jungle Challenge, our most popular Canyoning adventure, takes place one hour from Panama City, in the pristine rainforest of Chagres National Park. After a 15 minute dugout canoe transfer, we reach the trail-head. Here we embark on a challenging trek through dense jungle growth, along a narrow trail with many steep inclines and descents.

Along the way, our trekking guide will point out the flora and fauna that inhabit this rich environment. If all goes well, we should reach the head-water of Iguana Creek within one hour. One by one, we face the first of the falls of Iguana Creek. After rappelling the slippery, 20 meter rock face, we disengage and swim through the cool waterfall pool to await our fellow explorers. After this first challenge, we continue on downriver to a 37 meter rappel and scramble along the winding riverbed. You'll continue to trek through unpredictable jungle terrain until we reach the final fall.

After a 3 meter roped descent, we finally return to the Chagres River, where our canoe awaits. You’ll enjoy the canoe transfer back to our vehicle where you can change clothes, warm up, and have a meal before heading back to Panama City.

Day 4

After breakfast at your hotel, depart for your choice of two tours:

Soberania National Park Kayak Tour:

What a wonderful way to see the Panama Canal at a different pace. This incredible kayaking adventure puts you in the heart of the Panama Canal. Your adventure begins by traveling to Gamboa in the Soberania National Park. Here you will board your kayak and head towards the channel and see ships as they pass by. After a few breathtaking photos, we continue east on the Chagres River to the Ruins of Venta de Cruces. These ruins are the least seen in Panama due to the nature of its location. The ruins are known as a haven for Howler and White faced monkeys. After exploring the area and walking a few meters on the famed road Camino de Cruces, we get back in our kayaks and head north east. Along the way, we can witness the abundant wildlife, and chances are great for spotting Toucans, Snail Kites and Ospreys. Some days we see more wildlife on this kayaking adventure than on our nature trips. On rare occasions sightings of manatees add to the show Mother Nature puts on. Of course, no show would be complete without out the heart pumping moments when you see large crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks!

Soberania National Park Biking:

Soberania National Park is approximately 30 minutes from Panama City, deep inside the Panamanian rainforest. You will be riding over different kinds of surfaces like hard packed sand, dirt, rocks, mud and everything in between. Ninety percent of the road runs under the shadows of giant tropical trees. This road is full of wildlife that you will see, hear and enjoy. This ride is 14 kilometers roundtrip and most light riders only go 4 – 6 kilometers one-way so they can spend more time looking for wildlife. Included is a visit to the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, where you can hike 1.2 kilometers through the forest up to the 40 meter high observation tower to contemplate the canopy of the forest.

Bottled water and a boxed lunch are included.

Day 5

After breakfast at your hotel, depart for your Spelunking Adventure.

There are numerous caves along the Southern shore of Lake Alajuela. Once at the caves we begin a series of passages where one of the most exciting spelunking experiences awaits. You will crawl through several small spaces which lead to several large rooms. The sensation of being several meters below ground is awe inspiring. The rock formations are classical. Seeing them gives you a feeling of wonder, knowing very few others have had this experience. After exploring several caves, we take a much needed break and have a box lunch on-site before exploring a few more caves. After about 3-4 hours, we hike back comparing our experiences, and laughing most of the time as we decide who was the bravest in the group and who got the most mud on them. Of course pictures speak a thousand words so bring your camera!

Bottled water and a boxed lunch are included.

Day 6

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up for your Canopy Adventure.

Originally developed by scientists to study the bio diversity found in the canopy of trees, this method involved rigging large trees with climbing gear, cables, ladders, etc. By using this gear, biologists were able to swing from one tree to another, over chasms and water, to study larger areas of the forest. They also discovered it was a LOT of fun!

Once at the Canopy site, a knowledgeable guide will assist you in donning the harness and safety equipment. Your guide will give you a thorough briefing and let you know what to expect to make the most of your experience. Once you're ready, hook your harness to the cable and look out! YOU ARE FLYING! The series of platforms are sometimes located over 100 feet high and up to 450 feet apart, enough to give you a thrill!

Lunch and bottled water is included.

Day 7

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then depart for a Full Day Canal and City Tour.

This is a tour of the major sights of Panama City including the Panama Canal. You will begin with Panama Viejo, founded in 1519 by Spain and later destroyed by the most feared privateer on the Spanish Main, Henry Morgan. After exploring these spectacular ruins on the banks of the Bay of Panama, you continue to Casco Antiguo, the Colonial City, and visit many historical churches and public buildings dating back to 1673. Much of Casco Antiguo is being restored and many buildings have received awards, including the National Theater, which contains one of the greatest turn of the 20th century ceiling paintings inspired by Robert Lewis. You will also have the opportunity to walk up to the front door of the Heron Palace, and if you're lucky, you may get a chance to see the President of the Republic walk by. Around lunch time you will be taken to the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center at the Panama Canal. Miraflores locks has 2 observation decks which allow guests an opportunity to see ships raised or lowered 56 feet in just 8 to 10 minutes. The center also provides a 3D video in its theater and 3 floors of exhibits that help explain this engineering marvel. After your visit at the locks you will travel to the Amador Causeway and enjoy the view of Panama's 3 cities. At the end of the day you will realize that the Panama Canal is truly an engineering marvel.
