El Cajas National Park Exploraton

4 hours +/-

Tour Description

Only 30 minutes away from Cuenca lies the El Cajas National Park, with over 200 lagoons and a surface area of 110 square miles. It is a very important water resource for Cuenca and Ecuador; it is on the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance, has been named an area of international importance for bird conservation by IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area), and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The rivers and tributaries that originate here flow into the Pacific Ocean and the Amazon River, and the Intercontinental Water Division is found in this area. We will visit the high part of the park at four meters above sea level, a walk of approximately 45 minutes, followed by a visit to the Toreadora Lagoon, where we have a walk of approximately three hours.
